DeepSharp for PixInsight

Our trained ML model doing it right.
Just one of seven sharpening methods in DeepSharp.

Welcome to DeepSharp

Sharpening has quietly become something we hand to a trained machine learning model, and accept. And it works: DeepSharp ships one of its own, trained on linear data, and it often does a decent job at that.

But tight stars are not the whole picture — and by now most of us already own something that delivers them, with PixInsight itself heading the same way. What’s left is everything the one-slider approach flattens: the dust lane that wants a different radius than the spiral arm it crosses, the texture that disappears under a global amount, the filament no luminance mask can select, the halo that shows up only after the stretch.

Those aren’t one decision. DeepSharp makes them seven: AI Model, Deconvolution, Multiscale, Texture, Flow, Clarity and Filaments — one window, one engine, measured on your own data and reported in the console, different flavors for different results, us driving every one of them.

ML models get us a long way. This is the part they were never going to do for us.

Left: Filament sharpening. Right: Clarity enhancement.
